Haaland Makes Premier League History as Man City Maintain Perfect Start

Erling Haaland added another milestone to his remarkable Premier League record after scoring in Manchester City’s thrilling 5-3 victory over Sunderland. His 81st-minute strike completed a unique achievement, as Sunderland became the 25th different Premier League club he has faced with City and the final one he had yet to score against.
The match produced eight goals in an entertaining contest, with City eventually holding on after Sunderland mounted a strong fightback. Enzo Fernandez, Rayan Cherki, and Antoine Semenyo’s brace had given City control before Haaland found the net late in the game. His goal was initially ruled out for offside, but a VAR review overturned the decision and confirmed the Norwegian as the final scorer of the match.
The goal was Haaland’s 117th in the Premier League and his fifth of the current campaign. He currently leads the early Golden Boot race by one goal ahead of Alexander Isak, who scored Liverpool’s winning goal against Bournemouth during the same weekend. Haaland’s consistency continues to provide City with a major attacking threat as they attempt to maintain their flawless start.
Sunderland still produced one of the individual performances of the match through Brian Brobbey, who scored a hat-trick despite ending the game on the losing side. The striker became the first player in six years to score three times against Manchester City in a Premier League match, following Jamie Vardy’s achievement, while also becoming the first Sunderland player to score a top-flight hat-trick since Jermain Defoe.
The victory also preserved Manchester City’s perfect record under Enzo Maresca, who became only the sixth manager in Premier League history to win each of his first five matches with a club. With Haaland already on five goals and City yet to drop a point, the champions have made an emphatic start and will now look to carry that momentum into their upcoming fixtures.
